CHIROPRACTIC AND/OR PT CARE DIMINISH OPIOID USE
Opioid use is a much-debated
topic these days. “Epidemic” is often linked to it. Efforts to curb
this epidemic are widely debated. One potentially
effective way to do this is to urge low back pain patients
to start care with a conservative healthcare provider (in place
of a primary care provider) like a chiropractor, physical therapist or
acupuncturist. When this ensued in a study
of 216,504 US adults with a new low back pain episode, the early and long-term
use of opioids was significantly reduced.
(1) In an effort to curb opioid use after
spine surgery, new prescribing limits have been established
which seem to decrease the 30-day post-operative opioid use and
not increase refills for prescriptions, visits
to the ER, or unexpected hospital
readmissions or reoperations for pain. (2) Another study points out
that opioid use before spine surgery increased the time of opioid
use after surgery and was linked to poorer short-term
and long-term outcomes for cervical spine fusion. (3) Since most general
practitioners in France (57.3%) admitted not being confident in the
diagnosis and management of patients with lumbar
spinal stenosis back pain - They ordered imaging
(98.8%) and corticoid spinal injections (71.4%) and referred to another
specialist (100%). – conservative care with practitioners like your Minster
chiropractor is understandable. (4) Your Minster chiropractor is
confident in diagnosing and treating back pain of many kinds!

CHIROPRATIC TIP OF THE MONTH:
VITAMIN C ENHANCES COLLAGEN PRODUCTION
Wanting to improve connective tissue, researchers are evaluating
assorted nutritional interventions. Adding
vitamin C enriched gelatin or hydrolyzed collagen supplementation an
hour before exercise potentially improves
collagen synthesis. (5) A
review of recent literature on vitamin C efficacy reported
that it potentially accelerates bone
healing after a fracture, boosts type I collagen synthesis, and decreases
oxidative stress in an antioxidative role…with no adverse effects! (6) When it
comes to benefits for musculoskeletal issues, information like this on vitamin
C enthuses your Minster chiropractor!
